This is the new European Standard, covering portable Fire Extinguishers. It replaces the formed BS5423: 1987, which was withdrawn in 1997. Until then the UK had a unique colour coding system to identify the various Fire Extinguishers.
BS EN3 requires that at least 95% of the extinguishers body must be coloured red, allowing only 5% colour coded zones on the extinguisher.

Foam Extinguishers are ideal for both A & B class Fire risks. AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) is particularly suited to Class B Fire caused by the combustion of flammable liquids such as petrol, oils, fats, paints etc.

Carbon Dioxide Extinguishers are especially suitable for office use on electrical equipment, creating minimal secondary damage.

Powder Extinguishers are multipurpose, suitable for mixed Fire risk environments specially suited to Class B Fires caused by combustion of flammable liquids such as petrol, oils, fats, paints etc and Class C type Fires caused by flammable gases such as methane, and propane etc.
Available in 1Kg, 2Kg, 4Kg, 6Kg or 9Kg formats.
Class D fires involve combustible metals such as magnesium, aluminium, lithium, sodium, potassium and their alloys. Combustible metal fires are unique industrial hazards which require special fire extinguishers.
Available in 12Kg format.
